Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. The bad news is that I don't have more screenshots to show yet. The good news is that I've been hard at work on the story, the world map, and the actual look of the characters.
I've decided to go in a different visual direction than originally planned. We'll see how that works out, I have some sketches done and I'll be doing some concept models soon!

A great game needs a healthy mix of history, fantasy, and cynicism presented in a unique but easily accessable way. It should immerse the player - everything should feel so natural that they forget they are playing a game. Overall, it must be an interesting and compelling experience in every aspect.

Just an update, here is a video of the GUI/water - VLC doesn't like the codec, but mplayer or Windows Media Player should play it fine. Sorry for the bad quality, I can't record at full quality or it makes the rendering extremely jerky because of the high disk access from saving the video.

Basic movement is now integrated (Blue box in the image is the player, for testing purposes). GUI display is also functional, obviously GUI themes and actual GUI layout are still to come. The map and texturing in the image are both placeholders as well.

I added the ability to place items on the terrain, and also loading maps from a folder of cache files. The program will automatically position the map segments based on information from the files.

I got terrain smoothing working, as well as adding features to load additional map segments, or load a whole directory with map cache files, and have the program arrange them properly in the game world.

I am working on the development tools to make it easier for us to create the game world.
Finally got a test example together which allows you to raise/lower/level terrain by clicking on the map

I've been playing around with Java Monkey Engine (JME) the library we are using to display the 3D environment in our game. After hours of messing around and digging through their code I think I am finally starting to understand how it all works together. I was expecting it to be slightly easier to use without any previous knowledge on the topic, but I expect it will go faster once I pick up some of the basic concepts.
